Crazy About the Jazz

Rated: Totally G.
Summary: This is a response to Jipster's Week 3 challenge: the first word challenge. Rough times for the Team salvaged, as ever, by the "jazz." One million thanks to Maestro for the help and support!!
Comment cards welcome; this is my first fanfic ever, so please be gentle with me.

The "jazz" -- somehow lately it seemed to be leading them astray .

BA scrunched his face into a scowl, peering into the rearview mirror as Templeton Peck soaked the seat of his precious van with dirty river water. It was so typical of the way things had been going the last few days. Opposite Murdock in the back of the van, dripping wet, his torn suit covered with mud (having barely escaped the usual group of gun-toting lackeys by laying low in the shallows of a riverbank, camouflaged by tree stumps and bushes) the Lieutenant was pouting. Face shook his head and whined "Unbelievable -- this was a brand new suit, Hannibal!"

However Murdock, as usual, tried to cheer up his friend and told Face that he looked pretty good that way and should consider adding more earth tones to his wardrobe. The little things that threw BA and Face for a loop often left the "crazyman" looking for whatever ray of light the bright side would throw him. Maybe there was something to this insanity thing, BA mused, since Murdock appeared to be the only one of the three younger men not ready to throw up his hands and walk away from the mission as a total washout. Murdock seemed to flow with the "jazz" more easily than the other two -- BA sometimes suspected that it was because Hannibal and Murdock were both crazy.

In the back of the van, Murdock patiently explained to Face that the "jazz" was actually a living thing, able to change forms at will, and had recently changed from Twinkies and Woody Woodpecker cartoons into a river, and that "if you follow the flow of the River Jazz, eventually you get where youre going - if you don't try to paddle up river, if you don't fall out of the raft in those level 9 rapids, if you don't . . . ."

Hannibal grinned, lit the cigar clenched between his teeth, and with a glitter in his eyes announced "Hey, it's little glitch, guys, besides, I've got another plan."

Strangely, even though proclamations of this sort usually signalled a new round of trouble, the familiarity of the phrase seemed to comfort and settle the three younger men. The Colonel was in charge, and the "jazz" reigned supreme.

In sync once more, the team roared off in BA's van; after all, it was going to be a piece of cake.

The End.
